Maximizing the Benefits of PRF: Tips for Optimal Results

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, can offer the chance to boost your skin’s health while also helping to manage wrinkles and fine lines. At AMG Aesthetics, we offer PRF therapy on its own or in combination with other options like microneedling. What is PRF treatment, and what kind of results can you expect?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Treatment: The Ins and Outs of This Unique Option

You most likely have heard about platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRF is the second generation of innovative PRP therapy options available, offering even more healing properties and providing more growth factors to the treatment area.

We create PRF from your blood and from a protein matrix called fibrin. Unlike PRP, it requires no anticoagulants, making platelet-rich fibrin the most natural option. It requires nothing but blood and fibrin from your body.

To create the PRF injections, we take a sample of your blood and run it through a centrifuge. This device spins rapidly and separates your blood’s components, allowing us to take the platelets and combine them with the fibrin. This creates a gel that we can then inject.

PRF injections can help treat:

  • Dull skin
  • Dry skin
  • Slow-healing wounds
  • Skin texture issues
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars

PRF treatment helps stimulate healing. It can help build tissue because fibrin can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. If you have injuries, like scars from acne, fibrin can also offer wound-healing capabilities.

PRF Treatment: Does It Offer Benefits?

PRF treatment is minimally invasive. It does not require a long preparation process or a lengthy recovery time, so you don’t have to worry about taking time off from work or from your favorite activities to get the results you want. Because PRF therapy relies on your body’s blood and fibrin, you don’t have to worry about allergic reactions, either.

Platelet-rich fibrin treatment encourages the production of collagen and elastin, helping manage skin texture issues or dullness as well as improving skin laxity. PRF treatment can enhance the results of other skincare options, including microneedling and laser resurfacing.

Another benefit that PRF offers is its usefulness as an alternative to fillers. PRF becomes a gel, meaning it can offer volume while helping your body make collagen and elastin.

The PRF Treatment Process: Scheduling Your Consultation

If you want to get the benefits that PRF therapy offers, schedule a consultation with us. We will assess the areas that you would like to treat and ask about your overall health as well as whether you take any medications or supplements. The consultation also allows you to learn more about the procedure and what you can expect from it.

To prepare for the procedure, we recommend that you drink lots of water in the days leading up to your appointment. You should avoid alcohol and blood thinners — both medications and supplements. If you are unsure about whether any of your medications are safe to take before your procedure, make sure to ask us.

On the day of the treatment, we will take a vial of blood, a process similar to what you would go through for a regular blood test. We then use a centrifuge to create the PRF injections. If you are getting another skincare procedure like microneedling, we will wait until that’s completed to inject or spread the PRF.

Recovery and Aftercare: Top Tips for Lasting Results

After the procedure, it is best not to drink alcohol for a few more days. Alcohol is an inflammatory substance, making healing more difficult for your body.

To ensure you get the best results, stay out of the sun for a few days. If you do have to go outside, wear appropriate sunscreen. You should get into the habit of wearing sunscreen because sun damage can cause serious skin issues.

You also don’t want to use any harsh exfoliants. Even if you usually use chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid or salicylic acid, try to avoid them after the treatment session. We can advise you on whether you will need to continue using them.

To maintain your results, try to avoid very hot showers. Hot water can damage skin, drying it out and causing other issues. When washing your face, in particular, keep the water at a comfortable temperature.

You can expect to start seeing results within four to six weeks. Remember that you need to give your body time to start producing more collagen and elastin and to start using the growth factors that the platelets offer. Since this is a natural process, results can be as unique as you are.

For most people, we recommend a course of treatments that includes two to four sessions spread out over a few weeks. After completing the treatment, you can have PRF therapy once or twice a year.

Natural and Safe Skincare Rejuvenation With PRF Therapy

Whether you have minor imperfections like fine lines or issues like acne scars that other treatments have not been able to manage, PRF treatment can be the right option for you. It harnesses your body’s healing abilities and stimulates the production of important proteins like elastin and collagen to help you get the healthy skin you want.

At AMG Aesthetics in Tucson, AZ, we offer PRF therapy to help enhance skin care treatments and to function as dermal fillers. We have a team of experts ready to help you decide on the option that would work best for your needs, so don’t wait another day.
